HERE'S WHAT OJ SIMPSON DID TO THE BROWN FAMILY REPRESENTATIVE WHEN HIS GOLF CLUBS WERE CONFISCATED
Although OJ Simpson was handed a not-guilty verdict for allegedly murdering his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman, families of the two victims decided to pursue a civil trial. This led to a change in public opinion about Simpson and he was handed down a $33.5 million liability judgment by the jury, as per PEOPLE. Following that, the representatives of both the Goldman and Brown families decided to recover the amount by acquiring his belongings. One of the things that Simpson reportedly wanted to hold on to was his golf clubs and even extended a request to the representatives to let him keep those clubs. John Q. Kelly, who was fighting on Nicole Brown's behalf shared how the Goldman representative agreed to the demand but he didn't. He also shared the unsavory reaction from Simpson that was triggered by the rejection.
After getting to know that Kelly had not consented to giving him the gold clubs, Simpson was reportedly disappointed.
Kelly explained his side of the story, "Believe it or not. The Goldman attorneys consented to have his golf clubs returned to him, and I did not. He asked me why. I told him. I just knew I knew how much they meant to him, and I was going to hold onto them for now, and he got rather angry with me."
But Simpson did not take to this kindly and in Kelly's own words began to slap the lawyer "on the back harder and harder with the eyes getting larger and larger, and it just went on for a minute."
The lawyer has his own theory about why Simpson got so upset about the golf clubs. In his opinion, it wasn't "so much just about the golf clubs." The loss of clubs just "set him off about other things too" which led to the reaction.
According to Kelly, Simpson was a "large, imposing personality" who "was very full of himself." He also shed light on what Simpson believed about his role in the case. The murders divided civilians and the legal community and the defendant claimed that he was innocent till the end.
This is exactly what Kelly gathered in his conversations with Simpson, adding that the ex-actor and footballer might have suppressed it from his memories. Kelly stated, "In his mind, it never happened."
In 2017, Simpson was granted parole after spending 9 years in prison on robbery charges, as per NY Times. The news of his death was made public by his family on April 10, and cancer was revealed as the cause of death. He died in the company of close ones.
For the Goldman family, the death was a reminder of what they had lost. "The only thing that I have to say today is that this is a further reminder of the loss of my son Ron," Fred Goldman told DailyMail.com. "It is a further reminder of my son's murder and a reminder about the many years we have missed Ron."
