Party Insiders Not Worried About Michelle Obama’s Low Profile in Kamala Harris’ Trial
USA elections are right around the corner, and a significant individual has yet to make her support heard in recent months. The individual in question is former First Lady Michelle Obama, NBC reported. Considering the fact, that predictions are so close between nominees Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, Michelle Obama's absence has shocked many analysts. Being the most popular FLOTUS of recent times, her support is predicted to have a significant impact. Sources associated with Harris' campaign planning have claimed that Michelle Obama will make her voice heard before the polls close on 5th November.
Security concerns
One of the reasons pointed out by analysts regarding Michelle Obama's absence on Harris' campaign trail is security concerns, NBC reported. “After the two assassination attempts against former President Trump, the staffs of all the former presidents and first ladies recognized the new reality and so does the Secret Service,” a person familiar with the matter said. Michelle Obama herself has allegedly raised doubts regarding protection around her. Last year a Trump supporter was caught near her Washington home with two guns and 400 rounds of ammunition, according to Federal authorities.
Past support
In August, Michelle Obama appeared at the Democratic National Convention and urged the party to not remain complacent regarding the upcoming elections, NBC reported. She maintained the same tone towards the voters and implored them to take action. “If we see a mountain in front of us, we don’t expect there to be an escalator waiting to take us to the top,” she added. “No. We put our heads down. We get to work. In America, we do something.” The former FLOTUS then fired up the audience with her chants of "Do something!!" “So, consider this to be your official ask,” she concluded. “Michelle Obama is asking you — no, I’m telling y’all — to do something.”
Present role
Michelle Obama has mostly worked behind the scenes in recent months, NBC reported. She has devoted herself to boosting turnout at swing states where competition between Trump and Harris, is too close to call. She has not publically endorsed Harris since August. The party though is not worried about this low profile. Insiders believe this is all part of a strategy. They understand that the election will have the most limelight at the end, and Michelle Obama's presence during that portion of time will make the most difference. “You have to pick the moment when you can move the needle the most,” a source close to campaign planning shared, “and that hasn’t happened yet.”
Barack Obama's endorsement
Barack Obama has made two appearances in Pennsylvania, in support of Harris, NBC reported. During an unscheduled appearance at Oakland, he warned voters that a lot is at stake in this election. “These aren’t ordinary times, and these are not ordinary elections. You’re lucky Michelle’s not here,” he said. “She talks seriously about this stuff.” The former President will make more appearances in Tucson and Las Vegas, to garner more support for Harris.
