SEAN 'DIDDY' COMBS CONTROVERSY: FULL TIMELINE OF ALLEGATIONS AGAINST THE RAPPER
A sex trafficking probe against record producer Sean "Diddy" Combs has remained in the media spotlight since last year, although the rapper is no stranger to controversy. The CEO of Bad Boy Entertainment has courted trouble throughout his career from assault allegations by former partners to misconduct complaints from professional collaborators. Here is a timeline of all the allegations that he has faced since his climb to stardom in the '90s.
February 2024: Accused of sexual assault by the producer of 'The Love Album'
Before the sex trafficking probe, Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones sued Diddy for sexually harassing, drugging, and threatening him over more than a year, as per NBC News. In his lawsuit, Rodney claimed that he lived and traveled with the entrepreneur from September 2022 to November 2023. He had recorded evidence from the time which showed the artist and his associates “engaging in serious illegal activity.” The lawsuit details how Diddy forced Rod to procure sex workers and pressured him to engage in unwelcome sex acts with them and others. He also alleges that the mogul gave laced alcoholic beverages to people who attended his parties.
December 2023: Diddy and associates are accused of gang-rape
Diddy was named in a lawsuit filed last year where he was accused of gang-raping a 17-year-old girl in 2003, as reported by Variety. This was the fourth lawsuit filed against the artist in recent weeks alleging sexual assault. The plaintiff chose to remain anonymous and identified Combs and Harve Pierre, the president of Bad Boy Entertainment. She alleged that she was given “copious amounts” of drugs and alcohol after which Diddy raped her over a bathroom sink while she went in and out of consciousness.
November 2023: Jane Doe files a lawsuit against Diddy and Aaron Hall alleging them of raping her in the early '90s
A woman identified as Jane Doe shared that she and her friend met Combs and Hall at an event hosted by MCA Records in New York City in 1990 or 1991. “Combs and Hall were very flirtatious and handsy with Jane Doe and her friend, offering them drinks throughout the night,” read the 10-page lawsuit. After being invited to Hall's apartment Jane Doe alleges that she was “coerced” into having sex with Combs. “After Combs finished doing his business, Jane Doe laid in bed, shocked and traumatized,” according to the court documents. “As she was in the process of getting dressed, Hall barged into the room, pinned her down, and forced Jane Doe to have sex with him.” Her friend also became a victim of the duo's assault.
November 2023: Joi Dickerson-Neal named Diddy as the defendant in her lawsuit
Joi Dickerson-Neal filed a lawsuit against Diddy for sexually assaulting her while she was in college, as per Business Insider. The lawsuit was filed under the purview of the Adult Survivors Act. She also accused him of "revenge porn" in the lawsuit. She alleged that Diddy asked her out on a date, and they went out on one in 1991. They spent time in a Harlem restaurant where Dickerson-Neal worked as a server and then drove to a music studio. She believes that by this point she had been drugged because "when she attempted to exit the car, her legs felt rubbery and she was unable to stand." Diddy took advantage of this situation and took her to his house where he sexually assaulted her.
November 2023: Cassie Ventura comes forward with her with her allegations
Ventura and Diddy were involved in a decade-long personal and professional relationship. On November 16, she filed a lawsuit accusing him of rape and a decade-long pattern of abuse that began when she was 19 years old, as reported by Variety. In the lawsuit, she alleged incidents of sex trafficking, human trafficking, sexual battery, sexual assault, and gender-motivated violence throughout the relationship. She also claimed to have been raped by him in 2018 and forced into "repeated unwanted sexual encounters" with male prostitutes who he hired, as stated by USA TODAY. Diddy settled the case with Cassie out of court just a day after the lawsuit was filed.
December 2022: O'Day's claims about removal from "Danity Kane"
Aubrey O'Day was unceremoniously cut out from the lineup of "Danity Kane," a band Diddy formed. Years later, she went to the Call Your Daddy podcast and shared that the reason she was not included in the lineup was because she “wasn’t willing to do what was expected of [her] – not talent-wise, but in other areas.”
June 2019: Gina Huynh claims Diddy abused her during their 5-year relationship
In an interview with YouTube blogger Tasha K, Gina Huynh claimed that in her 5-year relationship, Diddy constantly physically abused her. He once went so far that he "stomped" her stomach in anger. She said "He was mentally, emotionally, and physically abusing me. He would always compare me to Cassie and tell me that I'm the bad one, she's a good one."
June 2004: Kimora Lee Simmons alleges Diddy threatened to hit her
Kimora Lee Simmons, in her profile for New York Magazine, alleged that Diddy threatened to hit her while she was pregnant. Both were attending Manhattan City Center’s 2004 benefit performance of The Owl and the Pussycat along with a corresponding event after the show. Kimora had said something to Combs, and he allegedly responded by threatening to hit her. She added that later on he went on his knees in a public setting and apologized for his behavior. Both of them made up with Simmons saying in her profile, "I respect him for being a fierce entrepreneur."
