10-Year-Old Girl Survives Apparent Murder-Suicide That Killed Her Mom in Texas
A 10-year-old girl is fighting for her life after an alleged murder-suicide that caused the death of her mother as well, ABC13 reported.
The shooting occurred in an apartment complex in Spring, Texas, and is under the jurisdiction of the Harris County Texas Sheriff's Office, according to the outlet. The officials found a 39-year-old male, a 33-year-old female, and the young girl injured from the shooting, the sheriff’s office said. All of them had suffered gunshot wounds, ABC13 reported.
The child contacted her grandmother after being shot in the stomach, officials said. The girl's grandmother immediately contacted 911, and help was dispatched to the Pierpont apartments in the 23700 block of Springwoods Village Parkway near the Hardy Toll Road, ABC13 reported. The identity of the parties has been kept under wraps, according to the outlet.
Harris County Texas Sheriff's Office in their media briefing shared that the shooting happened around 5 p.m. local time on May 30. On arrival, the officials found the man deceased and the woman unresponsive, Sgt. Greg Pinkins of Homicide told reporters.
The mother was given immediate medical attention but succumbed to her wounds at the scene, PEOPLE reported. The child was in a critical condition and had to be airlifted in a Life Flight helicopter to a nearby hospital, according to the footage shared by the Spring Fire Department on X.
The girl was immediately taken to the surgery and is now recovering and in her grandmother's care, People reported.
Sgt. Pinkins told reporters that the shooting allegedly occurred because of a "disturbance" between the adult man and woman. The 10-year-old got “struck in the crossfire from the shooting,” Pinkins added.
Based on initial info, this appears to be a murder-suicide attempt.

The man and woman were in a relationship, with the girl being the latter's daughter, Ed Gonzalez, Harris County Sheriff, shared on X. The authorities said they suspect that the mother and daughter were trying to leave the apartment when the man allegedly shot them, ABC13 reported.
On being asked if there was any history of domestic violence, the Sergeant replied that they would be looking into the matter. "That is part of the investigation, we haven't gotten to that point yet," HCSO Sgt. Pinkins told reporters. "But that definitely would be something we'd look into, the history between these two individuals. Both of them currently live here."
The man involved in the shooting is being considered the prime suspect, as the only firearm on site was recovered from his custody, according to the police, People reported.
“Based on initial info,” Sheriff Gonzalez shared on X, it “appears to be a murder-suicide attempt.”
Authorities shared that no other individual was hurt during the shooting.
