MAN KIDNAPS EX-GIRLFRIEND FROM WORK AND KILLS HER AFTER BEING CORNERED IN CAR CHASE: POLICE
A 19-year-old woman allegedly faced a brutal end at the hands of her ex-boyfriend after he abducted her in a car and was followed by the authorities. Even after getting involved in a chase to apprehend the accused, the police were unable to save the girl's life, as per WSBTV. This wasn't the first time Cameron Ja’Michael Hopkins was abducting his ex-girlfriend, Khaliyah Jones as he had made a similar attempt just a year ago. The alleged kidnapper made the police chase him through two counties before he killed the girl outside Lovejoy High School just when the police were about to catch him.
It all started when Hopkins arrived at a Wingstop and forcibly took away his girlfriend at gunpoint. After learning about the incident, Fayetteville police arrived on the scene and immediately swung into action once they found out that the perpetrator was driving a red Camaro. They deployed surveillance to spot the vehicle and police cars went after Hopkins once they located him to save the abducted girl. As soon as Hopkins noticed police cars approaching his Canari, he stepped on the gas and immediately sped off. The team did not give up and followed him through Clayton County and after a long chase, Hopkins suddenly pulled into Lovejoy High School. At this point, the authorities decided to utilize a PIT maneuver, or a precision immobilization technique, to end the chase, as per KIRO7.
Although the police were able to stop Hopkins, they heard gunshots from the car moments later. Fearing the worst the team approached the vehicle only to be attacked by Hopkins in a last-ditch attempt to escape. Police brought in an irritant to get the situation under control, and finally took the man into custody. As the authorities went into the car, they found the woman dead with several gunshot wounds. Clayton County has investigated her death and will soon present the accused in court. They are pursuing malice murder, kidnapping, and other charges against him.
In the past, when Hopkins kidnapped the ex-girlfriend from her car, he approached her vehicle with a gun in his hand and broke her car window before dragging her out into his vehicle. But Jones escaped that attempt by jumping out of the car when it reached the Macon area and asking for help. Back then the police had reached just in time and took her statement and arrested Hopkins. He was then charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and criminal damage to property, but all that didn't deter him from trying to kidnap Jones once again, and this time she wasn't so fortunate.
