Crowd in New York City Attacks Man After Woman's Body Found on Sidewalk
A man from New York was attacked by a crowd that suspected him of killing a woman, according to police officials. Chad Irish, 55, from the Bronx was questioned by authorities regarding the murder of 31-year-old Yazmeen Williams, according to the New York Police Department, Fox reported.
After the questioning, Irish was charged with concealment of a human corpse as well as criminal possession of a weapon and menacing, but these charges were unrelated to Williams' death. Yazmeen Williams' body was found by police in a sleeping bag on 27th Street between Second and Third avenues, CBS News reported. Police were called to the scene on 5th July because of a suspicious package on the curb and found Williams' body in a sleeping bag partially covered with a trash bag.
Medical examiners confirmed that she died due to a gunshot wound to the head, CBS News reported. According to police sources, authorities have footage that shows a man in a motorized wheelchair handling the sleeping bag. Several people have informed police that Yazmeen Williams was friends with a man who used a wheelchair in the neighborhood where she grew up.
Police confirmed that a "disorderly crowd gathered and became irate" when Irish was being taken into custody in the area of E. 27th Street and Second Avenue on July 8, Fox reported. He was taken to hospital due to his injuries and but was reported to be in stable condition. While the investigation is still going on, Irish hasn't been charged with Williams' murder.
Police and EMTs tried to control the crowd which was trying to punch Irish and tear off clothes from his body, Fox reported. The man was pleading his innocence while being taken away into an ambulance.
The crowd also included the victim's mother, The New York Times reported. “You killed my daughter! Please kill him!” she cried out. “She didn’t deserve that. She was a good daughter. She was my best friend," she added.
At the time of the arrest, Irish was out on parole for an unrelated robbery case, according to the New York Department of Corrections data. He has a history of arrests and convictions in connection with attempted arson, assault, and robbery.
Nicole Williams, the victim's mother shared that her daughter had huge plans for the future before the tragedy struck, CBS reported. "She was looking so forward to living her life," Nicole Williams, said. "She got her degree in criminal justice. She went to Buffalo State University, and she wanted to go back to be a lawyer."
Yamzeen Williams' sister expressed sadness at not being able to share a life with her, CBS reported. "She used to always take good care of me, and she used to always be proud of me. She was the best sister I could have, and I love her so much. I just wish she could've stayed a little longer because I just wanted to grow up with her," the younger sister said.
