MAN ARRESTED AFTER MURDERING NEIGHBOR WEARING 'SCREAM' MASK
The Pennsylvania police department initiated an investigation into the case of a real-life ghost face killer after they were informed about the death of a man named Edward Whitehead Jr. As per the affidavit acquired by E! News the murderer allegedly donned a mask and costume "consistent with the Scream movie character." On March 26 Pennsylvania State Police responded after they were tipped off about an assault at a residence in Lehighton Borough. After reaching the sight, the state troopers found a 59-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. The victim was identified as Whitehead Jr. and was immediately taken for medical assistance at a nearby hospital, where he soon breathed his last.
At first, the detectives believed that a "piercing object" was the cause behind the injuries. State Trooper Anthony Petroski revealed in his interview with WFMZ that further analysis has implied that the victim was "struck multiple times with a knife and a battery-operated chainsaw." Considering the manner in which the crime had been carried out, the authorities were fairly certain that it was premeditated. The surveillance video made it clear beyond a doubt that the attacker and victim knew each other.
In the footage, they saw the attacker donning a "black costume-like garment" and a mask that had gained notoriety after the horror film franchise Scream. The attacker was seen exiting Whitehead Jr.'s home from the back entrance, but his face was not clear in the video. Therefore the investigators canvassed the whole neighborhood to find a man with a similar profile and zeroed in on Zak Moyer, who lived next door to the victim's house.
The police swung into action and surrounded Moyer's residence from all sides. Seeing no escape, Moyer agreed to communicate with the officers. He accused Whitehead Jr. of murder in written messages passed from under the door. He stated, "Ed murdered women and kids. Eddie Junior murdered women and kids last summer," on the note. As per the records, no such allegation had ever been made against the victim ever before.
The authorities managed to convince Moyer to come outside, after which they promptly arrested him. Moyer is being charged with criminal homicide and is being held in the Carbon County Correctional Facility. The police talked to Moyer's sister who revealed that he had been talking about killing Whitehead Jr. a week before the crime. No information has been provided on whether the movie in any way influenced him to commit the murder.
