Woman Strangled by Python for Two Hours Survives to Tell Her Tale
A woman from Thailand lived to tell the tale after being strangled by a python for two hours at her home located on the outskirts of Bangkok. The 64-year-old woman, who identified herself as only Arom stated that she was doing her dishes when suddenly she felt several bites on her leg, CNN reported. "The snake just shot forward and bit me," she reminisced. The incident took place in September.
Thereafter the python wrapped itself around Arom, causing her to lose her balance and fall to the ground, CNN reported. As per the police, the woman struggled for two hours to free herself from the python's grip with no success. Throughout she was screaming for help, but nobody appeared for help. Eventually, a neighbor heard Arom's distress calls and contacted the authorities.
Officials reached the scene and were shocked to see the woman's condition, CNN reported. "We were shocked to see the lady was tied down on the floor with the python wrapping around (her)," Police Major Sergeant Anusorn Wongmalee of the Phra Samut Chedi Police Station in Samut Prakan, a province south of Bangkok, stated. "The snake was really big."
It took rescuers 30 minutes to free Arom from the python's grip, CNN reported. After getting the woman out of the precarious situation, officials sent her for further treatment at the nearby hospital. The snake escaped after the rescue effort, according to the police.
Pythons are not venomous by nature, and usually kill by suffocating their victims and swallowing them whole, CNN reported. The snake species coil themselves around their target and squeeze them so tight that their blood flow gets constricted.
Thailand due to its high snake population deals with a large number of venomous snake bite cases regularly, CNN reported. As per the National Health Security Office, 26 people died of snake bites last year in the country.
