A 4-year-old boy in California was fatally shot when an angry driver allegedly opened fire into a vehicle, according to authorities.
Around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 15, police responded to a call of a shooting in Lancaster, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Police determined the victims were targeted in a road rage incident, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Officials said the suspect driver appears to have cut off the victims and then started following them through several surface streets.
While the family was pursued by the suspects, the victim driver reportedly slowed down his vehicle, which is when the suspect driver allegedly pulled up alongside the passenger side of the victim’s car and started shooting, officials said.
The boy was struck by gunfire in the upper body as he sat in the back seat of the vehicle, police said.
The child's parents, who were present in the car, drove him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers tracked down the suspect’s vehicle not far from the shooting scene. Police said a 29-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, who allegedly have gang affiliations, were arrested and booked for murder.
