Elderly Delaware Man Beat With Baseball Bat in Random Bus Stop Attack, Police Say

A Delaware man is under arrest after he allegedly beat a 64-year-old man with a baseball bat in a random attack at a bus stop, according to authorities.
Around 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 20, police were called to an assault at a bus stop near the Lighthouse Hill apartment complex in Wilmington, according to the New Castle County Police Department.
At the scene, officers found the victim suffering from “multiple injuries to the upper body,” authorities said.
Police spoke with multiple witnesses, who claimed the suspect beat the victim with a baseball bat before running away.
Officers were able to locate the alleged attacker, identified as 29-year-old Rafael Murillo, nearby and arrested him. Officers were also able to find the bat used in the alleged attack.
The elderly victim was transported to the hospital, where he is in critical but stable condition, authorities said.

Murillo was booked into the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution and was being held on $90,000 bond.
He was charged with attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon, officials said.

WPVI spoke with a neighbor, who said, “It was shocking to me, because like I said I’ve been here since 1981 on this corner, and ain’t nothing ever happened down here.”
