Police are investigating a double homicide after a 9-year-old girl and her mother were found axed to death in their New Jersey home, according to authorities.
Atasha Scott, the sister of homeowner Gary Morrison, identified the victims as the homeowner’s wife, Keisha Morrison, and daughter, Kelsey, according to WNBC.
According to Scott, Gary’s brother was ordered to leave the residence, but he became upset and killed the victims with an ax he found in the garage, WNBC reported.
Gary found the victims on April 19 when he got home from work and called 911, WNBC reported.
Scott told WNBC that Gary found the ax hidden between mattresses and bloody sheets. The suspect then fled the scene in the mother’s new BMW.
Police were able to track the suspect to Maryland and he was arrested. Officials have not released his name, but Scott told News 12 his name is Everoy Morrison Jr.

Scott said, “He [Everoy Morrison] walked right out the house. My brother was telling [police] to get him while he was here. But for some reason, he was let go and they just let him walk away and they found him in Maryland.”
According to Scott, the suspect was still in the basement when Gary arrived home and attempted to lure him before the homeowner called police, WCBS-TV reported.
Scott told WCBS-TV that “it’s like a Lifetime movie” and she feels “like I am in the Twilight Zone right now.” She added, “He wrapped them up in their bedsheets, stuffed them underneath my niece’s bed.”
The investigation continues.
