An Alabama man free awaiting trial in connection to a murder, is now being accused in connection to a weekend fatal shooting, police said.
According to authorities, Damien Phifer was arrested in May 2018 and charged with murder in the shooting death of Jamichael Stokes.
At that time, police said there was a dispute between the two men that led to the deadly shooting.
Phifer was issued a bond and later released, WSFA 12 News reported. However, a bond revocation motion was filed on July 5 after Phifer was arrested in a separate, recent murder case, police said.
Authorities said Phifer shot and killed 30-year-old Melbourne Johnson III on July 4. He was charged with murder in this new case, as well as the 2018 case.
Phifer has been arrested and is lodged in the Montgomery County Detention Facility with bond set at $150,000, officials said.
