Nearly 22 years after an Alabama woman was found dead in a drainage ditch, authorities announced her husband has been arrested in connection with her death.
On Dec. 30, 2001, Dwight Mills, 69, reported his wife, 49-year-old Sharon Mills, missing, according to the Dothan Police Department.
Officials located her body approximately a month later in the ditch in Holmes County near Bonifay, Florida.
Investigators in Dothan exhausted all leads and despite their efforts at the time, the case went cold.
Authorities said a periodic review of the old case file was completed, which led to new information on the case being uncovered.
This led investigators to reinvestigate all aspects of the case. Current investigators worked old and new leads, tips, and processed several pieces of evidence to solve the case.
As a result, investigators were able to gather enough information to obtain an arrest warrant for Dwight Mills on suspicion of his wife’s murder.
