A man is accused of mowing down a woman in a Walmart parking lot. He then tried to escape before his vehicle stalled, allowing police to arrest him, according to a report.
Recently, police in Decatur, Alabama, announced the arrest of Preston Lamar Nelson, 33. He was charged in connection to the death of Sherry Sain.
In late August, officers responded to a Walmart market and found Sain dead in the parking lot.
Nelson was trying to flee, but his vehicle stalled before he could escape, police said.
Investigators said Nelson pulled into the parking lot and parked in a handicapped spot. He sat in the vehicle until Sain walked behind it. Then he accelerated and hit the victim.
He continued to accelerate until he hit another vehicle, police said. Nelson tried to get away but was stopped by a civilian.
Police said there is no known connection between Nelson and Sain that led up to the killing.
Nelson was charged with murder and is being held in jail on $500,000 bond.
