Off-duty Alabama cop killed his pregnant girlfriend, cops say. Suspect Charged with capital murder.

An off-duty Alabama cop killed his girlfriend and now faces a capital murder charge, authorities said.
The Huntsville Police Department called in the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation to lead a death investigation for an incident on Ja. 7
Investigators charged HPD Officer David McCoy, who was off-duty at the time of the incident, with capital murder. McCoy has been placed on administrative leave and is being held at the Madison County Metro Jail.
A family member of the victim confirmed the victim as 26-year-old Courtney Spraggins, who was seven months pregnant with McCoy's child, according to WHNT 42 News..
Spraggins was reportedly found dead with a gunshot wound. McCoy, who lives at the Weston Ranch Apartment Complex as a courtesy officer. McCoy reported Spraggins to 911 dispatchers but said she was the victim of a suicide, according to WAAY 31 News.
“The case is being investigated as a homicide,” Madison County Coroner Tyler Berryhill told AL.com.
Investigators have not said what led to the alleged homicide.
Berryhill said an autopsy will be performed at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences lab in Huntsville this week.
