A 4-year-old girl was hit by a car and the driver fled the scene, police in Arizona said. But now officers said they caught the suspect.
Around 4 p.m. on Aug. 7, a silver, four-door sedan hit the victim at an intersection in Mesa, Arizona, police said. The suspect then fled the area.
Witnesses gave police a vehicle description and said it was driven by a woman with long hair, police noted. Video surveillance in the area showed the vehicle had a black bumper sticker and a red and white object in the back seat.
The next day, police found the vehicle at an apartment complex, authorities said.
The spot where the car was parked belonged to 48-year-old Veronica Laprada and she was identified as the driver, police said. She was arrested and charged with failing to remain on scene of a serious physical injury collision.
Police said the 4-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with numerous injuries, including a brain bleed and a punctured lung. She is expected to survive.
