Arizona Man Gets Stuck in Chimney While Trying to Break Into Home, Police Say

An Arizona man was hospitalized after getting stuck in a chimney while trying to break into the home of an individual who had a court order prohibiting him from entering the premises, according to authorities.
Around 1 a.m. on July 28, first responders went to a home in Phoenix because Ervin Gonzalez attempted to enter the residence via the chimney, KPNX-TV reported.
The family who lives in the house reportedly said they know Gonzalez and police told KPNX-TV that Guzman had a court order against him and was technically not allowed to be in the residence.
Firefighters were “able to monitor him, monitor the atmosphere around him at all times, they were able to have contact with him at all times, speak to the gentlemen and provide water for him,” Phoenix Fire Capt. Kim Ragsdale told KPNX-TV.
The rescue teams were able to extricate Guzman from the chimney using a rope and harness, officials said. They also had to break a wall from the inside.
Ragsdale noted, "Chimney flues are relatively small and not capable of having a human go in and out of them."
