A man shot and killed his mother, father, uncle in Arkansas killing two of them, police say

An Arkansas man is in custody after allegedly shooting his mother, father and uncle — killing two of them.

When police responded to the scene in Madison County, they found Richard Simmons Jr., 67, the suspect’s father, still alive.

Simmons’ brother, Mark Lee Simmons, 66, and the suspect’s mother, Mary Marlene Simmons, 65, were both dead at the scene.

Richard Simmons is reportedly in stable condition at a Fayetteville hospital, according to the Arkansas State Police.

Samuel Oliver Simmons, 44, the couple’s son, was later apprehended by an Arkansas State Trooper of the department’s Highway Patrol Division.

Samuel Simmons lived at the same address with his parents and uncle, police say.

Investigators have not said what caused Samuel Simmons to shoot his family members. 

The bodies of Mark and Mary Simmons have been transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where the manner and cause of death will be determined.

Samuel Simmons is in custody at the Madison County Jail and is expected to be formally charged on May 3.
