Police in Louisiana responding to armed robbery report discover second victim nearby suffering gunshot wound
A suspect in Louisiana is in custody in connection to the armed robbery of one victim and the shooting death of another in the same area, police said.
Geondre Jamal Thomas, 29, was arrested in Morgan City on the afternoon of March 20 and charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery, armed robbery with a firearm, possession of marijuana, resisting an officer, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to the Morgan City Police Department, earlier in the day, officers responding to a report of a robbery at gunpoint located the victim and, in the same area, discovered a man who was shot.
The wounded man was rushed to an area hospital, where he later died.
Police identified Thomas, a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing firearms, as a suspect in the robbery case and obtained warrants for his arrest.
Thomas fled on foot when investigators executed the warrants on his home. Officers gave chase and apprehended him a short distance away in possession of a gun and suspected marijuana, police said.
Evidence collected during an investigation allegedly linked the suspect to both the robbery and the murder, according to police.
Thomas was arrested and booked into the Morgan City jail.
The investigation is ongoing.
