Authorities in Virginia identified and took into custody a suspect they claim recently fatally shot an acquaintance as the victim slept next to his wife.

According to the Fairfax City Police Department, officers responding to a report of a shooting at a residence shortly before 3 a.m. on June 24 found a back door open and 32-year-old Gret Glyer dead from gunshot wounds

The victim’s wife, Heather Glyer, and their two young children were at home at the time of the shooting but they were not injured.

Law enforcement officials sought tips in the case and interviews led detectives to 33-year-old alleged killer Joshua Danehower, who knew the victim, the founder and CEO of a fundraising website.

“This case was a great example of what a police department and the community can do when they work together," Capt. Jeff Hunt with Fairfax City Police said, WUSA reported.

At a June 29 news conference, Hunt said police arrested Danehower at his job at Dulles International Airport and he was being held at the Fairfax County Detention Center on second-degree murder and firearm charges.

The investigation is ongoing and police have not revealed a possible motive for the murder.

“I am grateful to the police and everyone who has worked so hard to make this arrest happen so quickly,” Heather Glyer said in a statement, thanking loved ones and her church for their support.

“Gret was my best friend and an incredible husband and father. He had an amazing heart for helping the people who need it most, and I know that legacy will live on,” she continued, adding, “I know that God is with me and has a plan for my life and for the lives of our children.”
