Atlanta Mother Shoots Her 17-Year-Old Son After They Get Into Fight Over Video Game, Cops Say

A mother in Atlanta has been arrested after she allegedly got into a fight over a video game console with her son and shot him multiple times, according to authorities.

Around 10:30 p.m. on June 29, officers responded to a call regarding a person shot in an Atlanta home, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

At the scene, officers found a 17-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds.

An ambulance arrived and the teen was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, officials said. Police have not shared any updates on his condition.

Officers were able to identify the suspected shooter as the victim’s mother, 34-year-old Jaquana Butler.

Authorities believe Butler and her son got into an argument “over a video game console which escalated to gunfire."

During the argument, Butler allegedly grabbed her gun and shot her son several times.

Butler was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, reckless conduct and cruelty to children, officials said.

She was booked into the Fulton County Jail.

Authorities said Butler has been arrested several times over the last 13 years on various charges, including armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery and more.
