Woman and dog killed while on late-night walk in Georgia park. ‘It’s a gruesome scene,’ police say
A woman found her wife who went for a late-night walk with their dog stabbed to death in a Georgia park in what police said was a grisly crime scene.
On the evening of July 27, Katherine Janness, 40, and her spouse had dinner together, WSB-TV reported.
The victim then took their dog out and appeared to head toward Atlanta’s 185-acre Piedmont Park, which is about a mile from the couple’s home.
When she failed to return, the wife pinged Janness’ phone and discovered the victim fatally stabbed multiple times 100 yards inside a park entrance around 1 a.m. The dog was also dead.
“It’s a gruesome scene,” Deputy Police Chief Charles Hampton said.
The station noted divers spent hours searching a lake in the park for evidence, and officers asked people living in the area for surveillance camera footage that might help retrace Janness’ steps and track down her killer.
According to police, Janness was last seen alive walking her dog in Midtown Atlanta.
Georgia authorities are offering a $10,000 reward for tips leading to the arrest of Janness’ murderer. Anyone with information related to the crime should contact Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-TIPS or the Atlanta Police Department at (404) 546-4235.
