A prominent defense attorney in North Carolina has been arrested after she allegedly attacked one of her office employees and then assaulted a police officer and faked a seizure, according to authorities.
On April 15, officers responded to a call in Charlotte where a woman told them Mary Leazer Rogers punched her in the head, according to an arrest report obtained by WSOC-TV.
The victim said Rogers hit her on the right side of the face and in the nose five times, scratching her and drawing blood.
Officers said they saw the injuries on the victim’s face and noticed blood on one of Rogers’ nails, which supported the victim’s allegations.
The victim, an employee at Rogers’ law office, told police that Rogers got upset with her regarding a client’s case. Officials said the client had been at the office earlier in the day, but he had left before police arrived.
Rogers reportedly accused the victim of having a personal relationship with the client. The victim also alleged Rogers wanted to have a sexual relationship with her, but she told police she refused to engage with Rogers.
The victim said Rogers got upset with her and started arguing with her and cursing at her, which eventually led to the assault, according to the arrest report.
Officers arrested Rogers for simple assault, but while they were taking her to the patrol car, officers said Rogers kicked one officer in the lower leg. Rogers then spit in another officer’s face once they got her to the patrol car, officials said.

From there, authorities said she refused to sit inside the patrol car when asked and laid on her stomach across the backseat while in handcuffs.
When officers opened the back door to reposition her, she forced her way out of the car and onto the ground, police said.
While she was on the ground, officers thought Rogers was having a seizure. She was taken to the hospital, where she reportedly admitted to medical staff that she had faked it.

Rogers also reportedly spit on a paramedic’s head while she was being loaded into the ambulance.
Rogers was arrested and charged with simple assault, assault on government officials and malicious conduct by a prisoner, authorities said.
According to WSOC-TV, the bar could take action against Rogers if a complaint is made. However, that could take a while since these are only allegations against Rogers right now.
