North Carolina Mother Accused of Murder After She Left Her 5-Month-Old Son in Car While She Went to Work: Cops
The North Carolina mother of an infant boy who died in a car while she was at work in Virginia was arrested for felony murder, child abuse and child endangerment, authorities in said.
Taina Sanford, of Elizabeth City, was taken into custody on June 21 in connection with the death of her 5-month-old baby boy, the Suffolk News-Herald reported.
According to police in Suffolk, Virginia, officers responded to a local hospital around 3:45 p.m. on May 9 after receiving a call about the unresponsive infant. The child was pronounced dead at the medical facility.
An investigation determined the boy’s 21-year-old mother had left him unattended in her vehicle for an unknown amount of time while she was at work, police said.
The investigation also determined, according to officials, that Sanford allegedly was aware her child was unattended.
She is being held without bond at the Western Tidewater Regional jail.
