California mom gives birth, leaves baby 'discarded' outside their California home, cops say
A 31-year-old mother is accused of murder and child abuse after she gave birth and left the child to die outside of her California home.
According to the Mountain View Police Department, around 2:30 p.m. Aug. 2, a woman called 911 to say her friend had given birth to a stillborn baby.
Once emergency personnel arrived on the scene, they found the 31-year-old mother, identified as Jennifer Tupper, and the dead infant.
The child was found "discarded" outside the home, police said.
Mountain View police detectives and Santa Clara County District Attorney investigators continued their investigation to confirm how the infant died, according to police.
According to the Santa Clara County Coroner, an autopsy determined the baby was born alive and had suffered major and significant injuries before his death.
On Aug. 4, Mountain View detectives arrested Jennifer Tupper and charged her with murder and child abuse resulting in great bodily injury or death.
Mountain View Police Chief Chris Hsiung had this to say after Tupper’s arrest: “This is a tragic case for our community. We are devastated by this news, and we are grieving with the community on the loss of this baby’s life.”
The Mountain View Police Department are continuing to investigate this case, and they ask that anyone with any potential information to contact Detective Matthew Hom at matthew.hom@mountainview.gov.
