Suspect Charged In Connection With Murder Of Teenager Found Shot Dead On Basketball Court

A suspect was arrested and charged with the murder of a teenager who was found dead on a basketball court in Georgia two months ago, authorities said.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office took Shamuel Benjamin, 18, into custody on Nov. 30 in connection with the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Timothy Buchanan in Lawrenceville, WAGA-TV reported.

Around 4 p.m. on Oct. 2, officers with the Gwinnett County Police Department responding to the report of a shooting victim found Buchanan's body.

"They were just being kids playing basketball,” one neighbor told WAGA-TV of the murder.“You didn't think they were packing.”

In addition to the felony murder count, Benjamin also faces charges of aggravated assault, firearm possession, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell, police said.

He was being held at the Gwinnett County jail.
