Georgia Couple Guilty Of Murdering Woman Who Was Beat, Kicked And Left Untreated On Floor For Over 40 Days
A man and woman in Georgia who left her mother lying injured on the floor for six weeks will now both serve life behind bars for her murder.
In January 2021, authorities arrested Rebecca and Steven Yell, of Butts County, in connection with the death of Rebecca Yell’s mother, Margaret Vega.
According to WGXA-TV, Vega died after she suffered hypothermia and sepsis and was deprived of healthcare following beatings.
Court documents obtained by the station state that in addition to the couple's extreme neglect, Rebecca Yell would kick her mother while the victim was on the floor.
The Towaliga District Attorney's Office told WSB-TV reported that the untreated victim may have been lying on the floor for as many as 43 days before she died.
The Yells were originally each charged with felony murder, elder abuse, and other charges.
Prosecutors said Rebecca Yell took a plea deal in the case, while her husband, Steven Yell, was convicted at trial on charges that included felony murder.
