Harris county Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a statement on Facebook that deputies originally responded on July 20 to a reported shooting in an apartment complex parking lot at 13503 North Thorntree Drive, near Wallisville Road and Uvalde Road in East Harris County.

Cesar Peralta, 20, sustained gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office has released few details about the shooting. According to the Associated Press, witnesses told deputies that Peralta had been in a physical altercation with another man before the shooting, and the other man fled on foot.

“This is an unfortunate situation and I am in prayer for Akili and those impacted by this tragedy,” McDowell's manager, Jonell Whitt, told the AP.
