Brandon Dement, 28, told homicide unit detectives that he and Cortney Moyers, 21, were drinking at their residence on Monday night when the two began to argue.

Dement said he then took a pistol and placed it under his chin with his finger on the trigger. Moyers tried to intervene and stop Dement by grabbing his arm he explained, at which point the pistol fired a single bullet into her head.

Officers arrived on the scene a little after 10 p.m. in response to a report of shooting while Moyers was rushed to a nearby hospital. Attempts to save the young mother were unsuccessful and she died soon after arriving at Skyline Medica Center, according to a news release.

Dement, who was determined to be the sole witness in the case, posted to Facebook just a few hours before the shooting. I one post her shared a  meme that read: "I ain't got no sympathy for no bum ass adult that continues to burn bridges and play victim. F*** you and your SOB *** stories..."

Dement and Moyers became engaged in September 2020, and she had already taken his last name on Facebook.
