Teen Stabbed His Father To Death In California, Authorities Said. But Police Are Trying To Determine Why.

In California, police said a teen stabbed his father to death, but investigators aren’t sure why.

Around 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 21, police in Petaluma, California, responded to a home to check on a resident. There, police found a 49-year-old victim inside the home.

Investigators told Patch that they received a call from a friend of 19-year-old Christopher Hopkins who had concerns after he made statements threatening to harm himself.

Officers arrived and spoke to Hopkins who admitted to stabbing the victim, his father, and that his dad was still in the residence, according to Patch. Police went inside the home and found the victim dead. His name has not been released.

"We do not have a motive or reason for why Christopher stabbed his father," Lt. Jeremy Walsh told Patch. "We are actively investigating that to try to understand what exactly happened and what led up to this fatal incident."

Officers arrested Hopkins and charged him with murder.
