Teenage hitchhiker raped along road, police say they have caught the suspect months later
A man who allegedly sexually assaulted a teenage hitchhiker in California is now behind bars, police said.
On Aug. 23, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of Edisson Garcia-Guzman, 44 in connection to the May rape of a 16-year-old.
Deputies found the teenage victim along the side of the road, according to KRON4. She said she was hitchhiking and picked up by a man she did not know.
She said he gave a fake name and provided alcohol before he physically and sexually assaulted the victim, according to the report. He then left her along the road as he fled the area.
Deputies say Garcia-Guzman admitted to the assault during questioning, according to KRON4.
Guzman was charged with sexual assault and rape of a minor. He is being held in jail on $500,000 bond.
