A man accused of murder in a drug deal gone bad fled to Mexico after the killing, police said. Now, he’s in cuffs after being caught trying to get back into the U.S.
This week, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office in California announced that Juan Rodriguez-Gil, 29, was arrested at the California border trying to get back into the country.
Around 8 p.m. on July 8, deputies responded to shots fired calls at a home in Palermo, California, according to the Sheriff’s Office. There, police found two victims shot.
Investigators determined that a man had made a deal to sell marijuana on July 8. That led a group of men to arrive at the home to buy the drugs. Detectives determined at least two people bought drugs.
Both groups were arms and the shooting started during the deal.
The homeowner was grazed by a bullet and taken to the hospital. Another man, Russhhane Reynolds, 31, died from his injuries in the shooting.
Police identified Rodriguez-Gil as the shooter who allegedly killed the victim. But he fled to Mexico after the homicide.
