A dad in California faces a murder charge after the body of his infant daughter was found in the Los Angeles River, according to police.
On Dec. 4, police in Inglewood, California, were contacted about a missing child, according to KABC. A dad picked up two of his children from their mother’s home in Long Beach, California. But he showed up at his Inglewood home with only one child.
The suspect’s mom contacted authorities because she was concerned about 1-year-old Leilani Dream Burley, according to the report.
Police started to investigate and found the infant in the Los Angeles River below a bridge, according to KABC. The area is near where the river empties into the bay.
The child’s father, Jayveyon Burley, was arrested and charged with murder and child endangerment, according to the report.
"My daughter was murdered by her father," Lynisha Hull told KABC. "He threw her off the bridge."
Hull told the outlet that Jayveyon Burley was mad during pick-up but gave no indication he would hurt the child, the TV station reported. A motive has not been released in the case.
