Public library employee sexually assaulted juvenile for years, including at a branch: report
An employee at a California library sexually assaulted a juvenile for years, including at one branch, officials said.
Police in Hayward, California, announced the arrest of Robert Spitzel on March 25. He is an employee with Hayward Public Library.
Investigators determined the victim was assaulted more than one time while visiting a branch during normal library hours, according to Hayward police. The alleged abuse happened between 2010 and 2015.
Spitzel was arrested last week and charged with four counts of sexual abuse against a minor. He does not have a known criminal history, according to Hayward police.
There are no other reported victims. But police said if anyone may have been victimized to contact (510) 293-7176.
Spitzel has been employed since 2002 as a part-time librarian, according to authorities. He has been placed on administrative leave.
