Man shoots mother twice within close range, calls 911 to turn himself in, police say

A 33-year-old California man shot his mother twice and then called 911 to turn himself in to police, officials said.
Around noon on Jan. 5, Andrew Nathan Iles, 33, called 911 and told dispatchers he had shot his mother, Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said.
Officials said Iles used a shotgun to shoot his mother twice at close range.

Deputies arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the call and tried to perform life-saving measures on his mother, 58-year-old Susan Hill.
However, they were unsuccessful and Hill died at the scene, authorities said.
Investigators interviewed family members and they said Iles has been struggling with mental health issues, according to authorities.
Iles was arrested and charged with the murder of his mother, officials said.
He was held in custody without bail and is due back in court on Jan. 12, according to officials.
