15-month-old overdoses on fentanyl, parents accused of murder
Two parents face charges after a 15-month-old overdosed on fentanyl, police said.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department charged Adler Metcalf, 22, and Sandy Acuna, 20, this week with murder. They were booked into jail and are being held in custody.
On Sept. 1, deputies responded to a call of the child who was not breathing, according to the sheriff’s department.
Deputies tried to give medical aid to the child, but the 15-month-old was declared dead at the scene. It was determined the child died from a fentanyl overdose. Fentanyl is an opioid that is often mixed with other drugs to enhance the effects, but a small dose can be deadly.
Investigators said the parents were responsible for possessing the fentanyl.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact deputies at (951) 955-2600.
