Murder Suspect Nabbed As He Tried To Steal A Boat, Cops Say
A murder suspect was nabbed as he tried to steal a boat, authorities in California announced.
This week, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office in California announced the arrest of Austin Michael Medeiros, 27. He was arrested in nearby Santa Cruz while trying to steal a boat, police said.
Officers also found nearly 30 grams of psychedelic mushrooms on Medeiros during the arrest, according to the sheriff’s office.
Medeiros was wanted in connection to a murder in Humboldt County earlier in the month.
On April 3, deputies went to a home for a suspicious death. A witness told officers that they arrived at the home to provide regular care for a 28-year-old woman, according to the sheriff’s office. A man — later identified as Medeiros — blocked entry to the home.
The two got in an argument and Medeiros assaulted the worker. He then fled in the woman’s vehicle.

The worker went inside and found the unnamed victim dead, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials added the victim and Medeiros knew each other.
Police spotted Medeiros in the vehicle near the scene, but he fled. Police had to give up the chase and he escaped. That was until Medeiros was found this week alleging trying to steal the boat.
Medeiros now faces several charges, including murder. His bail was set at $1 million.
