A man who tried to get his baby to stop crying suffocated the child to death, police said.
Last week, police in Riverside, California, announced the arrest of Kyle David Benitez, 22, in connection to the infant’s killing.
In December 2021, police responded to a home for a baby who was not breathing.
When officers arrived, the 3-month-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Investigators said the child’s father, Benitez, may have wrapped her in a heavy blanket and positioned her in a way to get her to stop crying. A coroner determined the baby’s cause of death to be suffocation.
Benitez was charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury, domestic violence and willful harm to a child. He is being held in a California jail on $1 million bond.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and no further details would be released.
