A teenage girl was found shot dead in California earlier this year and now a 17-year-old boy and his mom face charges in connection to her homicide.
Just after 1 a.m. Jan. 3, Fresno Police officers responded to a call regarding two shooting victims in Fresno, California.
When officers arrived, they found a 14-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Fresno police.
Despite life-saving efforts, the young girl, Breana Gomez, was pronounced dead, police said.
The boy was listed in critical condition at the hospital and survived his injuries, according to police.
Investigators learned that Gomez was leaving a house party and was walking with a group of friends just before the shooting.
After seven months of investigation, police have arrested an unnamed 17-year-old in connection with Gomez’s death.
The boy’s mother, Maria Gonzalez, 42, was also arrested for her involvement after the crime. Police charged her with being an accessory but did not detail how she allegedly helped her child.
Both were arrested on Aug. 6 and booked into the Fresno County jails.
