Caretaker arrested on suspicion of stealing cash, Rolex watch from 92-year-old WWII veteran, police say
A California caretaker is accused of stealing money and a Rolex watch from an elderly World War II veteran, authorities said.
The Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station recently responded to a report of a theft at a home in the Jess Ranch senior community on March 3, the Victorville Daily Press reported.
The 92-year-old veteran’s wife claimed her husband was missing $200 in cash as well as the Rolex watch, which he was last seen wearing the day before the alleged theft, according to police.
After an investigation, deputies identified 38-year-old caretaker Jessica Steiner as a suspect in the case.
Steiner was arrested at her residence. According to the sheriff’s department, a deputy was able to recover the watch, however the money already had been spent.
Steiner was booked into the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto and released the following day. She faces a charge of felony theft of over $950 from an elder.
