A Chicago man has been arrested after he allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend while she had an active order of protection against him, according to authorities.
Around 6:30 a.m. on Dec. 13, Kenneth Brown, 44, allegedly fatally shot the 34-year-old victim, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The victim was identified as Brown’s ex-girlfriend, Maria Roque, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
Police issued a warrant for Brown's arrest and said he should be considered armed and dangerous.
On Dec. 29, Brown was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in Chicago and arrested on a murder charge, authorities said.
According to court records obtained by WLS-TV, Brown is accused of killing Roque in front of her children. At the time of the shooting, officials said Roque had an active order of protection against her alleged murderer.
Roque’s twin brother, Andres Roque, told WBBM-TV that one of the victim's children “tried to save her.”
The Chicago Sun Times reported that Roque was granted an emergency order of protection against Brown on Nov. 7, a week after the pair had an argument that turned physical and Brown threw Roque to the ground.
