A ‘Monster’ Neighbor in Chicago Was Irritated by 'Noisy' Kids. So, He Fatally Shot a 9-Year-Old Girl in the Head, Cops Say.

A 9-year-old girl was killed in Chicago after her neighbor allegedly shot her because she was making too much noise, authorities said.

Around 9:40 p.m. on Aug. 5, officers from the Chicago Police Department were called to a home for a report of a shooting, according to The New York Post.

Officials said the victim, Serabi Medina, was reportedly on her scooter and just got back home after getting ice cream with her father when the suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Michael Goodman, walked up to a group of people and allegedly shot her in her head on the sidewalk outside her home.

Serabi’s father reportedly saw Goodman approach them outside their home, and he tried to intervene. One neighbor told WLS-TV that her father “ran over there, football-tackled this guy.”

Relative Angee Gonzalez Rodriguez said, “He saved other people because God only knows what that monster intended to do that night, how many lives he was going to take and if it wasn’t for Serabi’s father, it could be a lot more."

Serabi was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, but she later died from her injuries, officials said.

During the struggle with Serabi’s father, Goodman was shot above his left eye with his own firearm, authorities said. He was treated at Illinois Masonic Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.

Megan Kelley, a Medina family friend, told WFLD-TV, “The neighbor, he would always just come out and kind of yell at all the kids on the block. Any time they were playing, he would yell at them being too loud, too noisy."

Another neighbor told WFLD-TV that Serabi “was sweet. She would just ride her scooter up and down the sidewalk smiling. An innocent, innocent girl who did not deserve that.”

Goodman was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, officials said. He is due in court on Aug. 8.

Serabi’s family has been plagued by gun violence. The Post reported. Her mother, 29-year-old Blanca Miranda, was shot and killed in 2018.
