7-YEAR-OLD BLUDGEONED TO DEATH WITH A HAMMER AFTER MAN CLAIMS HE ‘JUST LOST IT,’ REPORT STATES
A 7-year-old boy is dead after being beaten with a hammer and his mom in stable condition with stab wounds to the face after a West Virginia man claimed he “just lost it.”
According to a criminal complaint obtained by FrontPageDetectives, at around 2:45 a.m. March 18, Rashad Akheem Thompson, 34, allegedly attacked his girlfriend, Felicia Brown, 24, and her son in the apartment they shared in Beckley.
When officers arrived, Brown was at a nearby neighbor’s home and had stab wounds to her face. She indicated Thompson was still inside their apartment with her child, Tre’shaun Brown.
When officers entered the home, they noticed it was in disarray and “the floor inside was covered in what appeared to be blood,” the complaint states. They then discovered the body of a boy who had extreme head trauma lying on a couch.
Investigators believe the young victim was struck repeatedly with a hammer found at the crime scene. A kitchen knife with a broken blade was also recovered
Police wrote in the complaint that when they took Thompson into custody, he allegedly told them without provocation: “I just lost it.”
The neighbor whose home Brown fled to during the attack later told police she was able to rescue a 2-year-old child from the apartment but had to leave again when she saw Thompson coming from the kitchen.
When the neighbor tried to return to attempt to save the 7-year-old child, “she observed that Mr. Thompson was in the process of violently striking an area of the couch repeatedly,” the police report states.
Brown underwent multiple surgeries for her facial wounds and is in stable condition, the Beckley Police Department said.
The suspect faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, malicious wounding and two counts of domestic battery.
He is currently being held at Southern Regional Jail pending his arraignment.
