A Virginia registered sex offender is accused of fatally beating his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter while he was babysitting the victim and her infant sibling.

On March 29, Harvion Lontel Simpkins, 35, was watching the pair at an extended-stay hotel in Chesapeake while their mother was working, police said.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by WTKR, when the children’s mother returned to the hotel, she found her older child unable to hold herself up and suffering a busted lip and facial bruises.

The 2-year-old girl was transported to an area medical facility, and doctors determined she had suffered a skull fracture and brain bleeds from what appeared to be strikes from an object.

She was pronounced dead from her injuries the following morning.

Police arrested Simpkins on second-degree murder and child abuse charges in connection with the toddler’s death.
