A man is accused of shaking his infant and slamming the baby’s head on a cushion leading to the child’s death, according to police.
On June 2, police in Oak Lawn, Illinois, responded to a hospital for an 8-week-old infant with severe head and brain trauma, according to police.
Staff told officers the child was first seen on May 27 with what was believed to be a stomach illness and dehydration. The child came back to the hospital over the next several days and treated with an I.V., police said.
On May 30, the child was bought to the hospital and unresponsive, police noted. The victim was diagnosed with a severe head injury, constant with being shaken.
The victim’s father, Edward Janiszewski, admitted to police that he shook the child and slammed the infant’s head on a cushion, according to police.
Janiszewski was charged with aggravated battery to a child. The victim died this week and police said charges could be upgraded once an autopsy is complete.
