A Cincinnati grandmother is accused of abusing her 2-year-old granddaughter's corpse by putting her remains in multiple trash bags and then in a cooler, cops say.
LaTonya Austin was arrested on May 8 and charged with abuse of a corpse. Her bond was set at $500,000.
Austin, 42, allegedly put her granddaughter’s body into multiple trash bags, then placed the trash bags in a cooler, according to FOX 19.
“The fact that multiple trash bags were used indicates that there may have been dismemberment involved,” Hamilton County Assistant Prosecutor Jack Besignano said Monday, FOX 19 reported.
Austin’s granddaughter was 2 years old at the time of her death. Her name and cause of death have not been released.
Judge Dwyane Mallory set Austin’s bond at $500,000 during a hearing on May 11, according to FOX 19.
This is the third time the judge has changed the suspect’s bond since her arrest, FOX 19 reported. Her bond was originally set at $25,000. It was revoked altogether before being set at $500,000 on Tuesday.
A grand jury is set to hear Austin’s case and report findings next week.
