Colorado man accused of killing an 18-month-old infant in his care
A Colorado man is accused of killing an 18-month-old infant who was in his care.
Andy Serrel Carter Jr., 26, was charged with child abuse resulting in death. The child was not his, officials said, but was the child of his girlfriend.
On July 2, Greenly police responded to a hospital for a possible case of child abuse. The victim had been flown to that facility after initially going to another medical center. Doctors diagnosed the infant with a severe brain bleed.
Detectives went to the hospital and saw the young girl and contacted her mother and other family members.
The child died about an hour after police were called, according to the department.
Investigators say Carter was alone with the child and the infant was in his care, according to Greenly police. Detectives did not release how the child sustained the injuries, but said Carter drove the victim to the hospital.
Carter was arrested on July 8 and is being held in jail without bond.
