A woman and her boyfriend face murder charges after a 5-year-old died of blunt force trauma injuries, police said.
On July 6, Colorado Springs, Colorado, police announced the arrest of Matthew Urias and Brianne Escamila. They were both charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of 5-year-old Emily Canales.
Escamila was the victim’s mother and Urias was the mom’s boyfriend.
On Jan. 13, police responded to a home as medical crews were trying to provide life-saving care to the victim. She later died, police said.
An investigation determined that the victim’s death was a homicide caused by multiple blunt force injuries. Authorities did not disclose how the victim sustained the injuries, or their extent.
In late June, police got warrants for the two adults, and Urias was arrested days later. The mom was arrested on July 5 in Littleton, Colorado.
