A Colorado mother has been arrested after being accused of killing her 2-month-old baby during a possible “mental health crisis,” authorities said.

According to the Boulder Police Department, officers were called to the home of 29-year-old Anna Louise Englund in Boulder for a welfare check after the new mom was “possibly having a mental health crisis.”

Once at the scene, officers learned from neighbors Englund and her 2-month-old baby were not there anymore and Englund was seen driving away from the home with the baby boy.

Officers started searching for Englund’s car and alerted other law enforcement agencies in the area.

Around 10 p.m., Englund’s car was located. She was heading to Foothills Hospital and officers made contact with her when she arrived at the parking lot outside the hospital, police said.

Authorities said the baby was taken into the emergency room, but was pronounced dead just before 11 p.m.

Englund was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death, officials said.

The case is still under investigation and the exact nature of how she may have killed the child has not been released, according to authorities.

In a statement from Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold, she said they “are thinking about the child’s loved ones as they grieve all that has happened.”
