A former assistant principal at a Colorado high school was charged with dozens of counts of sexual assault of a student. Days later, he was found dead in Arkansas.
On July 1, Boone County Sheriff’s Office arrested 56-year-old Randell Warren Mealer on 50 counts of first-degree sexual assault, according to authorities.
Court documents state Mealer was teaching in Arkansas during the 2018 school year when he engaged in sexual activity with a student at least 50 times, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported.
On July 3, Mealer's body was found by the Stone County Sheriff’s department in Arkansas in a “rural” part of the county, police said.
Investigators determined Mealer died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.
Mealer was last listed as an assistant principal at the Citadel location of GOAL Academy High School in Colorado Springs in their May newsletter, The Colorado Springs Gazette reported.
